Service Civil International
Service Civil International (SCI) is one of the world's largest international volunteering organisations dedicated to promoting a culture of peace through the organisation and coordination of voluntary projects all over the world. SCI has been organising international voluntary projects since 1920.
The historical archives of SCI in the Bibliothèque de la Ville La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland) provides an extensive documentation on international volunteering for peace.

In the letter of July 19 to Pierre Ceresole the Swiss minister of Defence, Ruedi Minger, requested guarantees, that any kind of antimilitaristic propaganda should be avoided. Failing that, the ministry would not supply any materials. Ceresole answered him him a day later. The correspondence was in German. Here it is summarized in English.

This week I was invited to have presentation on SCI at University of Novi Sad. Besides pictures of rich SCI history I presented three thesis on SCI as a kind of conclusion. I had several discussion before and after the presentation and I think it is worth to present them here. Please feel free to comment them.

Today I came along to files from SCI contacts in Sudan in the early 90s. While I was ordering the documents by date, a paper titled with SCI Africa Constitution got my attention. Usually there are documents about volunteer exchange and projects in files from African countries. But this file is about the beginning of an SCI group. Actually it was not a successful attempt.
